An Abstract Conversation with Myselves

Intersect I Workshopped Production

Bennington, VT

2017

An Abstract conversation with myselves, is a new work written by Asian American Writers Workshop and Broken tower prize winner, Ayesha Raees. It is a poetry play performed in the shadows of hanging sheets. These shadow screen players fight mind and body to express their identity. The characters, only known by number, grapple with race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sex, queerness, and politics, in a beautifully abstracted manner; they are the complexity of the human spirit, the bitterness, and the resolve to defy stereotype and assumption. Otherness is ripped open, as someone steps out in the open.
