2017
Anne Carson is a Canadian poet, translator, feminist, queer woman and bff to Margaret Atwood. In this devised piece, Anne Carson is portrayed as a woman, in a bathrobe, eating Cheezits. She’s the all powerful author and she trumps any imagining, an angry critic, Euripides, even Zeus. The creation of the play The Bakkhai is compared to that of the birth of Dionysus. Anne Carson stands beside Semele, envisioning Semele’s love and loss, focusing on the creation of a fallible god rather than the destruction of a once great city.
