EYES THEY CLOSE

Margot Tenny Theater

Bennington College Playwrights Festival

2017

A new work written by Julia Lorello, young lovers and Norse deities are interwoven in a play about choice and fate in a world torn to shreds. The shield maidens must choose between the love they have for each other and love their love of country. They have a queer relationship. they are warriors who fight mind and body for their loved ones, their beliefs and their country.

This play asks us to examine harmful myths woven into our society. We must open our eyes to the complexity of the human spirit and the power of community - a shared mythology builds the foundation for conversations on human rights and respect.
